FAA is Cracking Down on Drone Pilots – leveeing fines up to $36,000

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) significantly increased enforcement actions against drone operators in 2025, issuing fines and suspending or revoking licenses for unsafe and unauthorized flights. Violations included operating near emergency response efforts, major sporting events, and restricted airspace — all of which pose serious safety risks.

To strengthen compliance, the FAA updated its enforcement policy in 2026, requiring legal action for operations that endanger the public or violate airspace regulations. Penalties can reach up to $75,000 per violation, and operators may face license suspension or revocation.

Recent fines ranged from approximately $1,700 to over $36,000, with violations including flying near wildfires, over large crowds, and in restricted areas like high-security zones and major events.

The FAA emphasizes that all drone operators are responsible for understanding and following regulations. Increased enforcement highlights the growing importance of safe, compliant, and well-planned drone operations.
